I first developed an interest in cattle footcare when teaching final year vet students foot trimming and foot health at Cambridge Veterinary School. Working alongside a Registered Foot Trimmer and Diploma Holder in Professional Cattle Footcare gave me the experience and skills I needed to treat mobility issues on farm. Moving forwards, I became an AHDB Mobility Mentor with the training to investigate foot disease at a herd level. Lameness in cattle is a serious welfare issue which can be side-lined by both vets and farmers and my goal would be to increase awareness of both the presence and cost of lameness. Regular mobility scoring is an effective tool to diagnose early mobility problems and monitor ongoing prevalence of foot disease in a herd and I provide this service with enthusiasm and expertise.

I’m currently relief milking and milk recording for NMR and undertaking mobility scoring in between this, helping to improve the lameness found on farms. I am very happy to travel to farms, will be accurate and I’m not linked to any vets or contractors so I’m independent. I have great relationships with all my customers and will make it as easy and stress free as possible to complete with an accurate set of results.

Deborah Brown (Dugdale Nutrition)

I qualified as a vet from Glasgow in 1999. I spent 3 years in mixed practice and then a further 9 years in farm animal practice. During my time in practice I established a real interest in prevention of issues and whole farm management. Since leaving practice I have combined my knowledge and experience with nutrition and now provide advice and consultancy to a wide number of famers both independently and through various feed companies. I have carried out a number of farm assessments relating to lameness and this includes carrying out regular locomotion scoring. I am keen to offer my experience and advice to farmers who are interested in improving their herds relating to performance and animal welfare.
